Madame CJ Walker recruited and trained over 200 hair reps years BEFORE Mary Kay
In honor of Women's History Month Hairpreneur.com celebrates Madam C.J. Walker's legacy.. The Guiness Book of World Records cites Madam C.J. Walker as the first self-made woman millionaire. This accomplished businesswoman was not just about making the bottom line, but empowering women as well.
In 1917, the year before Mary Kay was born Madam Walker had her first convention for her sales agents. Over 200 black women came from all over the country to Philadelphia.. and at that convention she said to the women, "I want you to understand that as a Walker agent your first duty is to humanity... and I want others to look at you and understand that we care not just about ourselves but about others."
And she like most women wanted to be beautiful. And hair is a very big part of how women see their beauty.
